Curvy brides meet your fairy godmother @Gown Bridal!

Bride-to-be Emma hadn’t even stepped foot in a wedding dress shop as she was anxious her size would put many bridal gowns out of her reach.

But all that changed when she met her very own ‘fairy godmother’ at Gown Bridal to help her find her dream dress at their brand new boutique in Chorley.

Emma, 35, explained: “I’m a larger lady and I never wear dresses as I’m not a ‘girly’ girl.

“I’d looked online at wedding dresses and in magazines but because of my size I wasn’t sure what would suit me.

“I’d also seen some on the catwalk but then when you look at them in real life they look completely different.”

Fortunately Emma met Sally from Gown Bridal at a wedding fair recently as she recalls:

“I met Sally and her business partner who said she’d had an awful experience being pulled into a sample size 8 dress many years ago. She then explained they’ve since established Gown Bridal with a range specifically for curvy brides.  They’ve got sample sizes from size 14 upwards; I couldn’t wait for my appointment.”

“The boutique looks amazing and they have so many dresses to choose from. I was looking at them on Instagram even before I went, I was so excited.”

Alongside their own label, Gown Bridal are also exclusive stockists of plus size wedding dresses by Phoenix Gowns.

Emma added: “Where I think other bridal shops are restricted, I think Gown has so much flexibility because they offer a bespoke dress making service. You can mix and match the top and bottom of one dress, which is such a great concept.

“My chief bridesmaid really wanted pockets and trousers under the dress, and Sally’s response was, ‘We can do that’, which is such a relief to hear.

“I was also impressed by Gown’s prices considering the quality and the gorgeous designs. I think their most expensive dress was £1,500 which is very reasonable.

“I live in Oldham, so Gown is about 35 minute drive away, but to know that they have so many samples I could try, it’s definitely worth the distance.”

Emma will be tying the knot to fiance Matthew Gunner next August at Grains Bar Hotel, Oldham.

Gown Bridal’s owner, Sally, added: “It’s our pleasure to meet brides like Emma, who are perhaps a bit daunted by the experience of trying on dresses, particularly if they aren’t used to wearing dresses, let alone a bridal gown!

“We feel privileged to be trusted with

helping brides find gowns that not only look amazing but they feel comfortable and confident in so they can shine on their wedding day.”

But of course, Sally and her team can’t reveal details of the chosen dress but Yorkshire Rose Brides is looking forward to featuring Emma and Matthew in our real wedding section next summer!
