Signs with sentiments from Wood & Twine

Yorkshire Rose Brides Editor Louise Lavigueur chats to Penny (aka Mrs Twine) to hear how a gift from her partner inspired a shared passion for creating beautiful unique wedding items.

Wood & Twine lovingly craft personalised wedding signs for a couples big day and other milestone moments.

Penny explains: “A few years ago my partner bought me a slate heart, which I instantly fell in love with as he isn’t one for showing his emotion so it felt special.

“I decided to personalise it and put some holes through it and some twine, a hessian bag and a piece of chalk, so I could display it at home.

“My friends saw it and absolutely loved it and that’s where the idea for Wood & Twine came from.”

And although Wood & Twine’s bespoke creations are often the last thing couple’s consider they often take centre stage in those magical moments.

Penny continues: “One of our recent signs was for a page boy to hold. It simply reads, ‘Lee, here comes my mummy’

“The photo’s look amazing and really capture the emotion of the big day.

“Our signs are the finishing touches and add the wow factor.”

All Wood & Twine’s products are handmade from their studio in Birstall, West Yorkshire and show a high standard of craftsmanship and individuality.

Penny explains: “We make bespoke wedding signs and other wooden items. My partner aka Mr Wood sources the wood locally in Yorkshire and cuts it to lengths, it’s sanded, has holes drilled and then it’s over to me and I take care of the lettering, paint and stain and adding twine or ribbon.

“I use Annie Sloane paint for the lettters as it gives a great finish and is weatherproof.

“I source ribbon from a range of suppliers and love East of India as it’s such great quality.”

Keepsake

“Because it’s personalised for your wedding day they last forever. Couples can hang our signs in their home and for their married life they have some unique to them.”

Materials

“We can customise any wooden items. We use light weight wood so they can be posted and hung anywhere. We have brides come to us saying they are getting married abroad and it’s great as they can pop our signs in their suitcase as they only weigh 600g.

“Our crates are extremely versatile for wedding cakes as not only do they look great but they can be used to transport the cake, then turned upside down to create a personalised display stand and focal point for the cake cutting.

“We can customise multiple sides so whichever way you are displaying the cake, it has a personal touch to it.”

Wedding signs

As we catch up with Penny she’s laden with parcels ready to be sent all over the UK.

Penny said: “I’ve always packaged our signs in brown paper and string as it reflects our handmade and traditional brand.

“But recently I spent ages looking for an alternative packaging but ‘Mr Wood’, asked me ‘Why? as it reflects what we do perfectly.

“I do agree, and so I’m looking at adding a seal or stamp to further customise what we already love. After all, favourite things come in brown paper packages.”

Wood & Twine’s signs start from £13 and crates start from £25.
