Teachers Emma & Mark tied the knot at The Norman’s wedding venue in Bilbrough, just outside of York on Wednesday 26th July 2017, before 90 of their closest family and friends.

Here’s what Emma had to say about their big day:

Not to sound like an absolute cliche, but it really was the most amazing day of our lives. To have all the people that mean so much to us in one place, having such a brilliant time was priceless. Everything went to plan and it was so much fun from beginning to end.

The Venue

We researched several venues on the internet. Our vision was a rustic wedding in a barn so our search was tailored towards that theme.  As soon as we saw the Normans online, we had already fallen in love with it. It was the first and only one that we actually saw. Once we saw it for ourselves, it was the only place we wanted to get married.

The Planning
Pinterest was a massive help and allowed me to use other people’s ideas as bases for inspiration. I was also realistic and, although I knew in my head what I wanted, if somethings didn’t go to plan then I accepted that. Friends and family proved to be an invaluable team of creative helpers, this definitely helped me stay relaxed.

Lucky we have so many talented friends and family. This saved us a lot of time and money. One of my bridesmaid’s is a design and technology teacher and she was a massive help making our Save the Dates, guest book, place names and so much more. One of the grooms men is a graphic designer and designed our invitations. A friend of the family sourced and cut the wood for our table center pieces, etching some of our favorite songs and artists onto each one.

The Dress
I visited Bridal Path in Liverpool which had a wide selection of styles and designers. The staff put me at ease straight away and I tried on a few dresses and found ‘the one’ on my first visit. I liked it but thought that it cannot be that simple as I had been told that it was such a stressful time to find a wedding dress. However when I thought about the dress, I decided that it was the one I wanted and went back to Bridal Path without visiting another shop. The staff were fantastic, and were not pushy at all. I would highly recommend.

The Theme
I am a big fan of country music and Mark is slowly being converted. We have visited Nashville in the past so I wanted to have a few subtle country music references.

Cardboard cutout of Dolly Parton not so subtle! Mark and I both love to travel and we also wanted to reflect that in our day.

Words of Wisdom

As soon as you have decided on your theme and what you want start researching, buying and making! My mum’s dining room was out of action for six months, but it was exciting as gradually things were created, ticked off the list, boxed and ready. Make use of friends talents and skills.
