We’ve teamed up with Bijou Bridal owner Kerensa Dyson to give us an insight into the stunning designs exhibited at London Bridal Week.
Q.Can you explain what the event is about for brides who may not have heard about it before?
A.London Bridal Fashion Week is a trade only event for all of the designers across the UK and Europe to showcase their collections to buyers, who get to see them up close in the exhibition stands and also in exclusive catwalk shows in front of the world’s press.
Q. So how did you find the collections? Any key trends to look out for?
A. Over the last couple of years, colour has made quite an impact in bridal design, from the champagnes, golds and blushes through to more vivid hues of green and mauve and I have to say that from what I saw at the shows, colour is here to stay!
Floral is also becoming very popular and the top British Designers like Savin London, Ian Stuart, Stephanie Allin, are producing the most exquisite feminine lace dresses with the prettiest 3D tiny flowers.
Flowers are fresh modern and very feminine if used in the right way and it’s a trend that isn’t going away! Lace is also here to stay but we are seeing so many gorgeous new designs, both floral and geometric, even art deco style. It’s fabulous to see so much technique coming through into bridal and I think it’s here to stay.
Q.What was your event highlights?
A. The highlight of the week for me was seeing the new 2019 Alan Hannah collection come to life on the ‘invite only’ catwalk show.
As an exclusive stockist of this well established and loved label, it was a chance for me to see the beautiful new designs that Marguerite Hannah was launching for brides all over the world.
The collection is called Love Supreme and her inspiration has been taken from Autumn colours, golds, vibrant and deep, sometimes transparent.
The new collection sees a mix of different textures, strong structural classic shapes with a move to gowns with cascading flowers and appliques.
There is something beautiful for every bride in this new collection!
I am also an exclusive stockist of Ivory & Co. Bridal Couture and the head designer Sarah Bussey never fails to create such beautiful new bridal designs in exquisite silk fabrics and delicate laces.
Watch out for the gorgeous new tea length ‘Hollywood Boulevard’ which features a gorgeous new daisy lace bodice and matching little cape!
It will be coming to the boutique in the Autumn, just in time for next years brides!
Q.What are your personal favourites?
A. I am a silly romantic at heart and I love the classic and timeless styles which my brides who visit my beautiful boutique, also love. Both Alan Hannah and Ivory & Co. Bridal Couture have produced some absolutely gorgeous new gowns which tick all the right boxes for me and they’ll be arriving in the Autumn so keep a look out! I am not a fan of the sheer look with the odd bit of applique placed in strategic areas on a dress, which has graced the catwalks recently and so you won’t be seeing anything like that in the boutique anytime soon!
Q.Let’s talk accessories…
A. There was an abundance of gorgeous new veils and bridal hair accessories from various companies like Richard Designs, Rainbow Club, Joyce Jackson, Elizabeth Dickens and a lot of the designers are now also making their own designer veils to complement their wedding gowns. Veils are still an integral part of the wedding outfit and personally, the majority of my brides are completely shocked at the difference a veil can make to the look of the gown! They usually decide to go for it too! Veils are definitely here to stay.
