If your summer holiday seems a distant memory already or maybe was sacrificed completely to save for your forthcoming nuptials..this fabulous mermaid shoot will transport you to a dreamy state of beach wedding planning heaven!
We’re thrilled to shared the first in a series of Disney inspired shoots, produced by a team of fantastic Yorkshire suppliers, led by Nisha at Your Choice Photography.
We asked Nisha to share her thoughts on the shoot in a Q&A and here’s what she told us:
Q.We love the styled shoot, how did it come about? Who had the inspiration for the theme and how did it all come together?
A.I’ve always loved Disney and have dreamed of photographing a Disney Wedding for as long as i can remember. I wanted to create a creative project for me that could also provide some inspiration for Brides & Grooms… the Disney Collection is what I came up with. A series of styled wedding shoots with local suppliers that gave a nod to the love of Disney. The Little Mermaid is the first of the collection and Eleanor was just the perfect fit for our very own Ariel.

Q.How easy was it to capture the shoot? Working on a beach we guess has it’s pitfalls plus planning for British weather!
Had you considered lots of locations before settling on Hornsea?
A.The shoot itself was wonderful and the models – Josh and Eleanor – were so easy to work with! I’ve always loved beach shoots and so this fit with the The Little Mermaid theme, given that we actually got to enjoy a summer here in England it seemed like the right choice.
Although, the week running up to the day was very nerve wracking…all these wonderful suppliers had provided bespoke pieces and even two handmade dresses from Klue Doll Bridal, it could all go wrong if it rained.
Luckily, the rain held off, but it didn’t go without a few tumbles in the sand. The main thing when looking for a location was an easy local access point for all of those attending the day and Hornsea seemed to be the closest.

Q.The two dresses in the shoot are gorgeous. Can you tell us a little more about them?
A. Aren’t they just! Kelly-Anne is the owner of Klue Doll Bridal & Fashion House, bespoke handmade gowns and she created both dressed for us. It was a fantastic surprise as until we got close to the shoot day I didn’t know we were going to be borrowing two of her creations. Both gave a beautiful nod to the theme and fit the beach perfectly, Kelly was present on the day to help with getting ready and last minute alterations.

Q.The colours of the shoot work perfectly for the nautical mermaid theme. Did you stick to your original plan or were there any last minute tweeks when you saw it come together?
A. I’m surprised but we actually stuck to plan. With it being a very relaxed theme on the beach I was very happy to give a lot of the control to the vendors…Frankie (Frenchie loves Flowers) was just given a colour scheme and the name of a flower that I loved and she created something from that.
My Pretties UK did the styling and it was a very similar situation – a colour scheme and loose idea and the girls just ran with it. When i do a styled shoots its just as important, for me, that the vendors who are taking part get to have some control and create something they love as much as possible.
Q.Tell us the inspiration for the flowers? They are quite bold was that intentional?
A.Yes, it’s not often i get to work with a lot of colour and having a beach theme meant we could really play with corals and blues for something really interesting. Frankie is a fantastic florist and a beautiful eye for detail… her choices were gorgeous.
Q.Do you think couples are spending more time thinking about design and styling for their wedding then in the past?
A.Definitely!  I think couples are really trying to make their day a little more about them. The ‘DIY’  wedding is still huge and it’s giving couples the opportunity to create a day tailored to them. Pinterest has always played a huge part and always will, people want to be inspired and there are so many services these days that help people get what they want…at their budget to their style. Nowadays having an alternative wedding is just as popular as having a traditional feel and look to the day.
