Real Yorkshire Wedding: Villa Farm Wedding, York

Steph and James met through mutual friends at a birthday party in November 2013 and started dating in the coming New Year.
Nearly three years later they got engaged and started planning their relaxed and informal big day.

They tied the knot at Villa Farm, York on May 5th 2018 before 60 of their closest family and friends.

Here’s what the couple had to say about their Yorkshire wedding.

The Venue
Villa Farm was the only venue we viewed together (James had looked at three on his own). For us it was perfect setting for type of wedding we wanted, relaxed and informal.

The outdoor setting and choosing to hire a tipi made it much easier to break away from wedding traditions. We choose to have a picnic rather the formal wedding breakfast and fortunately had the perfect weather which meant that most of our time was spent outside.

Even though we live in York very few of our guests do, so the onsite accommodation was ideal. It was also easy to get for those staying in York.

The Planning

Overall planning our wedding was a very enjoyable and exciting process (although it did have some stressful moments delayed dress delivery, last minute table planning and snow causing hen do havoc).

We booked most of our main suppliers early, so we could take our time planning look and feel of the day.
We didn’t use any wedding planning or styling services.
The tipi that  we hired was a blank canvas for us, so with the excheption of the top table flower arrangement we did it all ourselves.

The Dress

I had planned to visit several wedding dress shops, however I only ended up going to one. My wedding dress was the first dress that I pick out. I tried on variety of styles but always preferred the first dress.

The Bridal look…

I wanted my bridal look traditional but still fit with natural setting of the wedding. For me it was also important that I looked like myself, so I didn’t want hair or make up that was over the top or a dress I felt uncomfortable.

How would you sum up your day?

Perfect. It was exactly how James and I wanted it be chilled out, informal, friendly and fun.

Words of Wisdom..

Plan the wedding that you and your partner not want, it is your special day no one elses. Don’t stress about the
small of as it will all work out in the end. Enjoy every minute of it as it goes so quick and it is the best day of your life.
